Any chance of an AVI Overlay? or even making the outputted data compatible with RaceChrono2AVI @ http://www.racechrono.com/forum/comments.php?DiscussionID=120&page=1#Item_0

It can produce awesome footage like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0wUTyzGxJI

A customer has started work on this. He uses the Google Earth file to generate the overlay onto his video. You can see his sample:

His Google Code project page is here:

I'm hoping Android will provide video editing capabilities in a future release. That way we can capture video and track data all with one device!

Awesome. Looking forward to this!

This would be an awesome feature. Use the camera on the phone to record video/audio and use trackaroo to overlay the lateral acceleration, rpm, speed, and track map.

I already bought the program, but I would gladly pay double the price again if this worked well...

Giving this a bump as I'd love this feature too. Personally I use external helmet cams so wouldn't want the video to be captured by the camera, but would love to be able to export a layer that I could import into Vegas and apply atop of the helmet cam footage.

Something like this should be fairly simple to achieve using an application like After Effects. I'm fairly certain that AE can work with CSV files to create animations. But, AE isn't an application that everyone just has lying around. I might give it a try ...

It's not a "one device" solution, but it's a solution that I could possibly use.

I do have an alpha version of Trackmaster with video capture running. The plan is to provide playback on the phone with a data overlay. Android does not currently provide any video editing capability, so you would not be be able to save/export the video with the data overlay. A big concern is CPU and memory utilization while running data logging and video capture at the same time. Some of the lower end phones will probably have issues. I'll put out a test version in a few weeks if anyone is interested in playing with it.

I'd be happy to do a little more testing for you. I might have to modify my mount to free up the lens, but that's not a big deal. You've got my contact info.

I would love to test it out as well. I have a moto droid and autocross a civic hatch. I have an event coming up on the 22nd and am really looking forward to putting trackmaster to good use!

I'm still testing it at this point, but have run into issues with running the bluetooth and video capture concurrently. It seems it's a little too much for the N1 processor to handle.

Hi everyone,

Awesome app! I got it up and running this weekend for a club sprint. I just keep finding more and more features.

Just wanted to add my vote for an AVI overlay. I figured out how to get the excel data into trackvision but they wany $200 for that software.

I found this thread and took a closer look at the racechron2avi program. I managed to manipulate the trackmaster excel output to the point I could make stuff happen.

Really needs someone smarter than me to write up an excel translation macro. I fudged it all manually and came up with this.

Test reel 1

The little animated map thingy is the hardest. you have to converted latitude and longitude to 2 dimensional x-y offset co-ordinates.

Most of the stuff just pastes between the trakmaster sheets and the racechron sheet.

Any excel experts wanna take my clumsy cludges up a notch?

And another just for fun.

Trackmaster excel data massaged into racechron format manually and made into AVI with racechron2avi.

Two streams combined with Pinnacle Studio 12.

And another with a different overlay. Much easier to work with the speed and time only.

That's very cool video. Thanks for posting. I'm anxiously awaiting the performance improvements coming with Android 2.2 this week. I'm expecting this to provide the performance needed for running the video capture and data logging simultaneously. If it all works, it should save you video editing time.

You wouldn't let someone with an overclocked Droid test your alpha version with video capture would you emoticon. No? Okay.

Seriously, i can't wait to have video datalogging built into trackmaster! As it stands I am going to see if Daily Roads Voyager will run in the background while using trackmaster in the foreground.

I tried to capture video in the background with my HTC Incredible's video camera while logging having Trackmaster log GPS in the foreground. Alas, the HTC video app stops when it is put into the background.

Then I tried the reverse, running the Video in the foreground and the Trackmaster in the background. As you all know, that failed because Trackmaster will not log when it is in the background.

Until the Trackmaster video support is released, would it be to update Trackmaster so it can log when it is running in the background?

I am researching background logging. As you can imagine, this is a pretty big task and needs to go through a lot of testing. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. One potential issue, is that background processes (technically a service) have less priority than a foreground process in Android. What this means is that if the video capture in the foreground starts to consume a lot of resources, Android can choose to kill background processes like the logging in order to free up more resources.

just wondering if there has been any progress on the avi overlay front? I'm really itching for this :-)

If you're talking about the video capture, I'm still working on this. But since a lot of Trackmaster users are still on older, less powerful phones (Android 1.6), I don't have this at a high priority. There are some other higher priority features coming.

Jeff, in the meantime, could you make trackmaster looking like a system application for android, this way i think the camear app would not close it.
The users could test what resulotion is still ok for their phones with background logging, and you could have more info about the phone performances emoticon

Trackmaster now supports exporting data for video overlays with track software like RC2AVI. Check it out.
