pocket mode and locking problems
6/6/10 5:32 PM
I tried this apparently out for the first time today and ran into a problem with it.
Running a Motorola Droid and racing motorcycles at roebling road raceway.
I initially set it for pocket mode but it would never collect date with various start and lap modes.
Then I mounted it to thebike and it would collect data for 2 minutes or so then quit.
I found later while playing with it that when the phone timed out or was locked the data collector stopped the session.
Am I doing something wrong or is it snmething up with the program?

What are you using for your Start Mode and Lapping Mode?

At first I was using lapping mode on and 1st marker. Then since I wasn't getting anything I tried the lapping mode off with movement and then immediate.
I fiddled with it in the car on the ride home and as long as the phone doesn't time out or lock it will log the data from those modes. But the second you lock the phone even during the prompt that "pocket mode activated you may now lock your phone" it stops the session.
I had thought that it wasn't picking up the first sector marker originally but after the experiment in the car I realized the moment I locked it the session stopped.
And when I didn't lock it manually my phone has at the time a 2 minute screen timeout thus leading to only 2 minutes of data being really worded. Unfortunately I didn't get the bike past the first marker so I didn't wind up seeing if the splits actually worked.

At the track, you should use Lapping Mode ON. This will automatically default you to 1st Split Marker for the Start Mode. Keep in mind that logging will start when you cross the first split marker. In the next version of Trackmaster, I will have an indicator that makes that a little more obvious. A few other people expected it to start logging right away, too.

As far as the screen lock, Trackmaster overrides the screen lock and keeps the screen ON unless you manually lock it. The Pocket Mode also should not stop the logging. This has been well tested on the Droid. There are a number of third-party screen lock widgets and apps in the Market. Is there a possibility you have one of these installed? If so, it may be interfering with Trackmaster. Are you using the stock ROM or a custom ROM?

Stock ROM and no screen widgets
I knew I needed lapping mode on from the help. I turned it off after it failed to start logging at the first marker the first two times I ran it just to see if it would log and try to trouble shoot where te problem was coming from.
My last resort that I've been holding out on is an uninstall reinstall

If it missed the 1st split marker then it could have been a problem with the placement of the marker or GPS accuracy. Try it out around your neighborhood with Lapping Mode ON and let's see how that works. I'd recommend mounting to your bike if that's possible. That will allow you to check the display and it might provide slightly better GPS signal than in your pocket.

Just walked a simple rout with lapping on and it picks up the first market no problem w/ the phone unlocked.
I tried again locking the phone when the prompt came up and said logging stopped. Going through the first marker did not start the logging again.
Im going to try an uninstall reinstall really quick and see if that helps with the problem.

If lock the phone, then you must have Pocket Mode ON. With Pocket Mode OFF, Trackmaster will keep the screen ON, but the user can still force a lock which will stop the logging. For your use mounted on your motorcycle or car, please use Pocket Mode OFF, Lapping Mode ON, and 1st split marker Start Mode and don't lock the screen manually.

OK uninstall reinstall done. Pocket mode on lapping on 1st split marker. Start session prompted "pocket mode on you can lock your screen" text goes away voice "logging starts on 1st split marker" lock screen voice "logging stopped."
I would really like to get pocket mode to work and keep the phone in my leathers with headphones to bear the voice data. That and in the event of a crash I would like to keep the phone with me versus having it come off of whatever mount I finally for it.

Can you lock the Orientation Mode to Vertical and try the Pocket Mode ON again?

that got it. I had it set on horizontal before. On vertical I locked it after the prompt went through the first marker and got "logging start" and then a split going through the 2nd marker.
Thank for taking the time to fell me out Jeff: )

Good to hear that it worked. Expect some slight changes to Pocket Mode in an upcoming release to fix that. It's actually an odd Android OS orientation behavior, but I have a way to work around it automatically.
