Trackmaster & Google Earth User Guide

Google Earth is a powerful virtual mapping application available for free from Google. It can be used to view and analyze your sessions. It can also be used to view, create, and edit your split marker sets. The following sections describe how to use Google Earth with Trackmaster data. Click on the links below to jump to a section.

Google Earth can be downloaded and installed from here.

1.View Your Sessions in Google Earth

Your sessions can be viewed and played (animated) with Google Earth. The first step is transfering your session to your desktop PC or laptop.
  1. On your android phone, select and view your run in Trackmaster.
  2. Select the Share or Save menu option.
  3. Select the Google Earth file format.

  5. Retrieve your Google Earth session file from your email if you shared or from your SDCARD if you saved.
  6. Click your Google Earth session file.
  7. Google Earth should automatically recognizes the file extension and launch.
Once opened, Google Earth will center on your session. A path and placemarks will be displayed. The time legend should be displayed at the top of the map. This will allow you to play your data. If you don't see it, select the menu option View->Show Time->Always. Click the right arrow to play your data. To control the speed, click the small clock to the left of the time legend.
 
 
 
 
Laps and data points can displayed and hidden by unchecking the folders and icons in the left navigation window. Data information such as speed, position, and time can be viewed by selecting the corresponding placemark.
 

2.View Your Split Marker Sets in Google Earth

Split marker sets can be viewed in Google Earth using a similar procedure as viewing sessions above.
  1. On your android phone, select and view your run in Trackmaster.
  2. Select the Share or Save menu option.
  3. Select the Google Earth file format.

  5. Retrieve your Google Earth session file from your email if you shared or from your SDCARD if you saved.
  6. Click your Google Earth session file.
  7. Google Earth should automatically recognizes the file extension and launch.

3.Create Your Split Marker Sets in Google Earth

To create a split marker set in Google Earth for downloading to Trackmaster follow these steps:
  1. In Google Earth, create a folder and name it.
  2. Right-click on the folder and select Add->Placemark to create a split marker..
  3. A dialog will pop open. Name the placemark something like 'Split 1'.
  4. While the dialog is open, drag the placemark to your desired location.
  5. When you're satisfied with the location, click Ok.
  6. Add additional additional split markers.
  7. Right-click on the folder and select Save Place As.
  8. Name the file and save it to a location as a KMZ file.

  1. Transfer the KMZ file to your phone by either emailing it to yourself or transfering it to your SDCARD.
  2. Open the KMZ file on your phone.
  3. This will launch Trackmaster to download the KMZ file attachment.
  4. The Trackmaster Import screen will launch and prompt you to confirm the download. Select OK.

  6. The Split Marker screen will launch showing your downloaded split markers.

4.Edit Your Split Marker Sets in Google Earth

You can edit your existing split marker sets in Google Earth with the following these steps:
  1. On your android phone, select and view your split marker set on the Split Marker screen.
  2. Select the Save or Share menu option.
  3. Retrieve your Google Earth session file from your email if you shared or from your SDCARD if you saved.
  4. Click your Google Earth session file.
  5. Google Earth should automatically recognizes the file extension and launch.
  6. In Google Earth, locate your split marker folder.
  7. Add new split markers by right-clicking and selecting Add->Placemark. Name and locate your split marker.

  9. Delete split markers by right-clicking on the split marker and selecting Delete.
  10. Right-click on the folder and select Save Place As.

  12. Name the file and save it to a location as a KMZ file.
  13. Transfer the KMZ file to your phone by either emailing it to yourself or transfering it to your SDCARD.
  14. Open the KMZ file on your phone.
  15. This will launch Trackmaster to download the KMZ file attachment.
  16. The Trackmaster Import screen will launch and prompt you to confirm the download. Select OK.

  18. The Split Marker screen will launch showing your downloaded split markers.

5.Google Earth Browser Plugin

Google also provides the same virtual mapping capabilities in your browser with the Google Earth Brower Plugin. This allows you to post your sessions or split marker sets to your web page and have them viewable in a Google Earth display. The browser plugin is provided via Javascript, so it does require some scripting knowledge. A demo of the Google Earth Browser Plugin is seen here.
