18.Tips

  • Bluetooth GPS Tips
    • Choosing your phone GPS or external bluetooth GPS: Forum Link
    • Choosing between 5 Hz and 10 Hz update rates: Forum Link
  • Phone GPS Tips
    • Make sure that Phone Menu->Settings->Location & security settings->Use wireless networks is enabled. This will prove your accuracy and acquisition time.
    • The GPS will assume you're at the same location as the last time you had a GPS fix and look for the satellites it expects to be able to see from that location. If you've moved more than 100 miles or so from that location, then your initial satellite acquisition will take a little longer.
    • If possible, ensure that you have plenty of charge on your device or use a charger when logging data.
  • Autocross, Rally, and Hillclimb (Solo) Tips
    • You will want to mount your phone and use the horizontal layout as shown here:
    • You have a couple options for for Start Mode: Movement or 1st Split Marker. With Movement, your logger will triggered by your initial acceleration at the start line. Or you can use 1st Split Marker to trigger the logger with a split marker at the start line.
    • Place additional split markers at desired locations along the course. Place your last split marker at the finish line.
    • You can create your split marker set during the course walk. The easiest way to do this is to use the Locate menu option. This will locate your current position. Then just tap the cross hairs to add a split marker to your location.
    • A better way for creating split markers would be for your organization to create the split marker set prior to the event with Google Earth. Then a "standard" split marker set can be provided to everyone. This is a great way to compare results afterwards. See the Google Earth section for more info.
    • Set your Lapping Mode to Lapping Off. Your logger (and time) will automatically stop after crossing the last split marker.
    • Ensure that you have plenty of charge on your device or use a charger when logging data to ensure you don't unexpectedly lose data.
    • If you Twitter, Trackmaster can post real-time updates to your Twitter friends. Go to Settings to enable Twitter mode.
  • Track Day, Road Racing, HPDE (Lapping) Tips
    • You will want to mount your phone and use the horizontal layout as shown above.
    • For Start Mode choose 1st Split Marker. Set your 1st split marker at the start/finish line for the track.
    • Place additional split markers at desired locations along the course.
    • The best way to create your split marker set is prior to the event using Google Earth. Or a "standard" split marker set may already be available. Check the your favorite racing forums to see if a split marker set for your track has already been created. See the Google Earth section for more info.
    • Set your Lapping Mode to Lapping On. Lap times and new lap data will be created when the 1st split marker is crossed.
    • Ensure that you have plenty of charge on your device or use a charger when logging data to ensure you don't unexpectedly lose data.
    • If you Twitter, Trackmaster can post real-time updates to your Twitter friends. Go to Settings to enable Twitter mode.
